“Alcyone with 5 degrees thermocline was like entering in a prehistoric world with millions of strange creatures” – Christian M
We’re just back from our final expedition of 2025!
What an amazing trip to wrap up the year. Even though our first day in the water was fairly quiet in terms of action, we still managed to see some hammerheads moving through the area along with a sizable Galápagos shark. Always a nice way to open a trip!
On our second day of diving, conditions improved and we kicked off the day with a much better dive at Dirty Rock. Shark activity picked up, and we saw more hammerheads passing by, giving us a glimpse of what the following days might bring. The reef itself was active, and the dives felt more and more promising as the day went on.
By Day 3 the diving really came together! Dirty Rock delivered an outstanding dive with huge numbers of hammerheads cruising both around the cleaning stations and out in the blue. We also encountered a few Galápagos sharks and were lucky enough to see three manta rays gliding through the site. On top of the big animals, we spotted a frogfish tucked into the reef and a large school of bigeye jacks, adding some great variety to the day.
The rest of the week brought a mix of dives, with changing conditions and different levels of activity, but overall we enjoyed many encounters with so many species of shark as well as other pelagic life. We wrapped up the expedition smoothly and began our crossing back to mainland. The return crossing was calm and comfortable, a lovely way to close out the Cocos season for 2025! We can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store. Until next year!
Alcyone with 5 degrees thermocline was like entering in a prehistoric world with millions of strange creatures. Small boat with great, friendly and professional crew. Special thanks to skiff driver Emanuel and Rafa, dive master Fernando and Roy, chief cook Chico, Elba and Pollito.
Great dive sites with plenty of marine life. Hammerheads walls! Experienced and knowledgeable divemasters. Staff was very courteous and always available to help. Shootouts to Pollito, the chef, and Ian. I will be back.
Every dive site was unique and offered the opportunity to witness the abundant sea life around Cocos island, however the standout sites were Dirty Rock and Alcyone. The underwater experiences exceeded expectations and it was a blessing to be able to see the schooling hammerheads and the countless number of other shark species. Even though we had challenging weather conditions during the first few days of our trip, the entire group felt in good hands thanks to the experience of the skiff captain and dive masters. Hats off to them for always prioritizing safety and the comfort of all divers.
Diving at Cocos island is once in a lifetime experience. The Dirty rock delivered consistently: so much action at any dive. Hammerheads, Galapagos sharks and oceanic mantas are the highlights for sure. The dive briefs were very clear and the dives were very well coordinated. The crew is incredible: attentive, polite, helpful. Rafa is a great skiff captain making a choppy ride into a smooth surf on the waves. Ian is doing an impressive job as a cruise director! The breakfasts were perfect (pancakes more often please) and puff pastry and fruits after the 1st and 3rd dives are just what we needed. I particularly appreciated diversity and creative approach with the dinners (BBQ on day 6 was great)
Definitely Dirty Rock as it was a good place to see lots of hammerheads and other sharks. I love the small group size and the dive masters skills.
Rafa was always super helpful, helped without asking Ian and Luis are excellent dive masters. Luis noticed some issue with the tank and made adjustments under water, both were very safe
There was a good choice of the dive sites and ship crew worked hard to adjust and accommodate changes . Much appreciated
Ian was awesome cruise director always looking for the solution and win win if there were some diverse views.
