Our very first day at Chatham Bay we spotted a manta ray at the surface – everyone considered this a great sign, for sure! We completed our check out dive accompanied by whitetips, a hammerhead and lots of life along the coral reef.
At Manuelita Outsdie we saw blacktips, tuna, tiger sharks and marble rays in full-on mating behavior! One of them was so curious it came in so close that our divemaster he had to swim backwards to give it some space. In Manuelita Channel we saw eagle rays, enormous tiger sharks and manta rays (as well as smaller creatures like frogfish). We also encountered lots of whitetips and colorful reef fish at Manuelita Coral Garden, as well as the occasional sea turtle.
We had some great action at Punta Maria, with Galapagos sharks and hammerheads at the cleaning station. Then the pinnacle was positively brimming with whitetip reef sharks.
On afternoon dives at Pajara we encountered mantis shrimp, seahorses, blacktips and a few hammerheads. The Arch at Big Dos Amigos was absolutely beautiful, but there was a strong current so we couldn’t make it to the other side.
At Dirty Rock we got to the pinnacle and saw a huge school of mackerel and then out in the blue another big school of hammerheads!
The swim-through at Submerged Rock was full of life, including blue-and-gold snapper, marble rays and a blacktip shark.
Alcyone gave us encounters with blacktips hunting beside yellowfin tuna. It was amazing! Our last dive there the island sent us off with tunas, hammerheads, Galapagos sharks and blacktips again in hunting mode.
