Dirty Rock continues to be on FIRE!

On Day 3, there was so much fish activity that at times it was hard to see the sharks through the fish. Schools of gold and blue-striped snappers, grunts, bluefin trevallies, and various species of jacks were overwhelming in number! What a dive! The hammerheads were coming into the rock to the cleaning station and getting close to the group, nonstop. We could tell that the school was close by. Not to mention the Galapagos sharks that were coming in—we saw them at least 10 times passing by. At one point, the fish got scared, came closer to the rock, and a group of about 7 blacktip sharks swooped in, trying to hunt some of the fish. It was an unbelievable sight, just breathtaking! As we started to drift into the blue, we found a massive school of hammerheads—this dive was simply mind-blowing!

We got to explore Porites Bay, one of our newer dive sites, this trip! As we swam to the sandy bottom, we saw a small tiger shark on the surface, about 50 feet above our heads. Continuing the dive, we encountered a frogfish, and just when we thought there was nothing left to see, we found silvertips! About 5 of them kept coming close to the group. They were very curious, and just as they passed us, a huge female tiger shark came in super close, allowing us to get a perfect look at it. What an impressive creature! We also saw a couple of mobula rays swimming together. This dive was very special!

Conditions were beautiful at Alcyone, especially in terms of visibility and water color. There was solid shark activity on the rocks, mostly hammerheads and some Galapagos sharks. We saw some really big yellowfin tunas, and at one point, an oceanic blacktip shark was seen chasing or hunting together with two big tunas—a great sight! When we drifted into the blue, we encountered a large school of hammerheads and were able to get pretty close to them.

Afternoon dives at Manuelita Coral Garden revealed some lovely biodiversity, such as moray eels and small schools of reef fish like blue and gold-striped snappers or Mexican goatfish; there were also a lot of flounders. At Ulloa as well—although we didn’t find the Cocos batfish we were looking for, we did encounter a curious silvertip and a Galapagos shark, which circled our group a few times, followed by a tiger shark! We also observed frogfish, lobsters, and some hammerheads.

We had some fantastic dives at Small Dos Amigos. The Galapagos cleaning station was exceedingly active, and the Galapagos sharks were very curious, coming really close to the dive group in groups of 8 to 10, accompanied by hammerheads.

Dives were like to be in a natural aquarium. All the small colored fishes were almost forgotten when sharks appeared… and they were there in all dives. Perfect! The staff make an excellent team. Everyone knows what his take is. Food is very good. Large quantity and variety. Facilities are adequate with small details. Dive masters very good, safety first, trying to show us everything without being annoying. Perfect! Some staff looked invisible but always present.Again perfect.

It’s not easy to describe in words the diving experience in Cocos Island… the most thrilling experience ever !!! The incredible preservation of the marine ecosystem is present in every dive site, and the interdependence between species is quite evident… the sharks rules! all dive sites where amazing, but my heart will remember always Dos Amigos Pequeño, Roca Sucia and Manuelita 👌❤️ Everything on board is made to garantee the customers safety and confort… since the inicial briefing to provide general guidance and safety procedures, to the workshops onboard to provide more knowledge about the wildlife on the island and on the sea…everybody is very helpful and made us very welcome. The food is very good, Chico and Emanuel make a great team. Pollito is a great saloon manager, always taking care of us… our dive guides were the best… Hector is a human fish, he knows their language… Ian is learning with the best, although he already knows a lot!
From the capitán, to Roberto, Diego and all the crew members I have only great things to say and happy memories to share ☺️

Dirty rock and Manuelita Out were fantastic dives with lots of hammerheads. The occasional Tiger Shark was a bonus. The boat is amazing with everything you could need provided. All of the crew were fantastic and incredibly attentive. The food was delicious and plentiful. Héctor and Ian were great Divemasters and very quickly learnt how to help me kit up with my rebreather on the skiff.
