Sea Hunter
Our very second dive of this expedition brought the extraordinary combination of schooling hammerheads, fast-moving tuna, a graceful manta, and even a whale shark passing by at the second cleaning station of Manuelita. It was an unbelievable way to begin the week, with both skiffs experiencing action-packed dives from the very start!
Day two was just as thrilling as day one. We had close encounters with hammerheads at the cleaning stations and out in the blue, and once again a whale shark passed by—this time even closer! Hammerheads filled the dive sites, and the underwater energy was truly electric.
Our third day brought yet another highlight: Dirty Rock delivered hundreds of hammerheads—the most seen this season—and at Punta Porites, a large group of Galapagos sharks circled a cleaning station for nearly 25 minutes. Both skiffs returned buzzing from the day’s dives.
On our fourth day, Manuelita was once again overflowing with hammerheads, with large groups cleaning at the stations. At Small Dos Amigos, divers were treated to an incredible “festival” of Galapagos sharks, with three very large individuals cruising right alongside us. The site was full of life, with Galapagos sharks surrounding the groups almost the entire dive. Back at Manuelita Coral, a few silky sharks also appeared toward the end of the dive, adding variety to the encounters.
Our fifth day finally brought us to Alcyone, which was quieter than the other sites but still rewarding. Later dives at Manuelita Outside and the Channel delivered more hammerheads, keeping the momentum strong.
On day 6, we alternated between Small Dos Amigos, Dirty Rock, and Ulloa. Small Dos Amigos again offered plenty of Galapagos sharks, while Dirty Rock delivered another hammerhead-filled dive. In the afternoon, half of the guests enjoyed the island tour, while the others continued diving, making the most of every opportunity.
Overall, this was one of the most impressive trips in recent memory. Enormous schools of hammerheads at Manuelita and Dirty Rock, Galapagos sharks in extraordinary numbers at Small Dos Amigos and Porites, two whale shark encounters, mantas, silky sharks, and constant action at the cleaning stations…the island just took our breath away again and again all week long!
