DeepSee

Hi everybody!

Our dives on the DeepSee submarine this voyage were everything we’ve expected and more!

The water column was full of gelatinous creatures like tunicate colonies that brought a lot of marine life activity as we descended into Cocos’ deep waters. We saw dolphins, mobula rays, a giant Pacific manta, hammerheads, yellowfin tunas, silky sharks, a thresher shark and bonitos.

An the Bottom, cruising on the wall down at 300m/1000ft, we encountered many jellynose fish, spider and box crabs, goosefish, a torpedo ray, groupers, conger eels and loads of anthias.

Then on the platform on top of the wall, at 170m/570ft, mobula rays were observed gliding back and forth, always looking for the submarine. We found a lot of groupers on the rocks as well as scorpionfish, a ton of frogfishes, king crabs, moray eels, brotulas and even discover an un-identified nudibranch (as far as we know).

We were so proud, as always, to return to the surface with very happy new deep-sea explorers. Everyone was so overwhelmed with the experience that they didn’t really want to come back to the surface 😉

We can’t wait for the next trip!

Yours,

The pilots.
