DeepSee

Wow, wow, wow and again WOW! What an amazing trip to Cocos Island we’ve just came back from. We were fully booked the whole week, hosting 26 passengers from the Argo, SeaHunter and Okeanos. We felt their enthusiasm and excitement and apparently that vibe sent us loads of awesome encounters on our dives.

On all of our dives we were accompanied by mobula rays in pairs, in fours, in sixes and even in eights — all of them flying by in formation, UNBELIEVEABLE! The wall, from 700ft-1000ft (200m/300m) had some groupers moving around, moray eels and jellynose fish (even a 5cm/2inch juvenile one). On the rocks there were a lot of frogfish, one of them pregnant. We also had an unusual amount of flavelina nudibranchs, scorpionfish, king & gorilla crabs and some groupers who came to stare at us right over our heads.

We couldn’t be much happier than we are after witnessing all that deep-sea activity. Also, we would like to give credit and thanks Randy Ubillos for some drone footage and some videos from his phone on this current trip video.

The Argo and The DeepSee will depart for a special expedition to the Galapagos for 3 weeks, and then we will be back to Cocos Island on August 5th. We hope to see you all on board the submarine. Don’t miss out on experiencing the deep waters of Cocos is at its prime moments!

The pilots.

We had been looking forward to our experience on the DeepSee for 4 years, ever since we learned of the Argo; it was definitely worth the wait! Sinking below the waves and watching the light get less and less was amazing. We had a school of mobulas that followed us for pretty much the whole dive which was really fun. Seeing the wall at 1000′ with lots of different critters moving around was very special. Our pilot was super knowledgeable about the ocean creatures and the submarine, we learned quite a bit about both. The two hours went by quite quickly and then we broke back through the waves, having completed a once in a lifetime experience. Many thanks to the crew of the DeepSee and the Argo for making it so enjoyable!
