Sea Hunter
We’re just back from Cocos Island, and still buzzing from the close-wildlife encounters that make this remote Pacific outpost one of the world’s ultimate bucket-list dive destinations.
Over a series of action-packed dives, we came face-to-face with an extraordinary variety of sharks — like hammerheads cruising in formation through the blue, patrolling reef edges, and schooling in both shallow and deep water. We also encountered Galapagos, whitetip, blacktip, and silvertip sharks. Majestic marble rays glided in so close they nearly bumped into us! (See the video above.)
We swam alongside a massive school of blackfin tunas, got lost inside an even bigger school of jacks, watched elegant cow-nose rays soar past in formation, and shared a breathtaking moment with a curious (and gigantic!) mobula ray. A hawksbill turtle made a serene appearance near a towering pinnacle, while silvertips drifted by during some of our deeper dives.
At times there were powerful currents and an active thermocline added to the thrill, bringing bursts of marine life to iconic sites like Alcyone, Manuelita, and Dirty Rock. Though visibility shifted throughout the week, the sheer volume and variety of wildlife made every dive remarkable.
This trip truly captured the raw beauty and wild energy that defines Cocos Island. For those dreaming of shark-filled waters, wide-blue encounters, and immersive pelagic diving, Cocos continues to deliver an adventure like no other. We can’t wait to see what else 2025 has in store for us!
The hammerheads were amazing, my favorite site was off Dirty Rock. The coral garden had an excellent variety of marine life. The white tips were everywhere and comfortable with the divers. The dive masters gave excellent briefs and monitored the divers very professionally. I highly recommend this tour company for Cocos Island. The food tasted superb. I had hoped to lose weight with 3 dives a day, but Chicos cooking caused me to gain weight. Hector was a great dive master and made the dives memorable.
This was our first liveaboard… we started at the top!. Amazing experience diving with a top class crew and dive boat. Our experience with Sea Hunter was fantastic. Great facilities and top class dive masters with Diego and Luis.
We loved the trip. This was our second time back. Crew is awesome! The diving process is very well organized and allows you to manage difficult conditions such as current and surge effectively. One suggestion is to make the upstairs deck seating area more comfortable. Our panga driver, Rafa, was exceptional! And he kept a sharp eye out – finding loose equipment that a fellow diver lost. Dolphins came in during our safety stop that played with us for 20 minutes.
We saw an amazing school of hammerheads and swam with a pod of dolphins. It was an exceptional experience. The staff were outstanding, in particular Diego made me feel very comfortable on our dives especially in circumstances where u was low on air.
