Sea Hunter
We left Puntarenas at about 2 PM for this Cocos Island dive expedition, and the crossing was an adventure in and of itself! As soon as we anchored the Sea Hunter at Cocos, our excitement was palpable. After somewhat of a slow first day, our second day of diving was full of action! We saw tiger sharks, dolphins, silky sharks, and schools of hammerheads—phenomenal diving.
Conditions at Dirty Rock were amazing — there was a lot of fish activity, with hammerheads coming in close to the rocks to get cleaned very close to our dive group. Soon after, a big tiger shark came in really close to the rocks and our divers. Then we went to the blue and found a huge school of hammerheads, followed by about five dolphins playing! Lastly, at the safety stop, the boat started to come close to the group to pick us up and to finish the dive, a few silky sharks came close to the group—they seemed very curious. Dirty Rock gave us some of our favorite dives of the trip! In general, it showcased lots of schooling hammerheads and also macro subjects like a yellow frogfish.
Porites Bay has proved itself worthy of becoming a classic Cocos dive site. It’s been just full of silvertip sharks! On one dive, we spent some time with a really big one, then a huge manta appeared—the manta was super friendly and curious, and she spent about 15 minutes with us, spinning around and around the dive group. As we were swimming with it, we also spotted a mobula ray and an eagle ray. On another dive, we saw a tiger shark here and three mobula rays swimming in a little formation.
Manuelita Outside was also amazing this week, with hammerheads close to the sandy bottom, eagle rays, cow nose rays, and mantas. We also found large schools of hammerheads out in the blue.
Last but not least, Small Dos Amigos was so fun to dive, with lots of fish activity, some Galapagos sharks, and a manta ray.
Best diving all over the world in Cocos. We saw Hammerheads, Mantas, Tigersharks, Silvertips. Diving was great Excellent dive masters Juan Manuel and Ian and crew. We come back soon…Crew more than excellent like always. Juan Manuel is the best dive guide and entertainer ever. Food was good. Ian made a good job as well -very helpful and friendly. Very good support for rebreather from Giovanny.
On my favorite dive sites (Small Dos Amigos, Roca Sucia and Manuelita Outside) we saw plenty Hammerheads at the cleaning stations but also as a school in the blue water. Beside all the different sharks, I also very much enjoyed the manta and mobula rays we saw. The boat and its facilities were good and perfectly fitting the dive trip. The staff was amazing: very helpful and friendly in all situations. Our dive guides Ian and Juan Manuel were exceptionally good, professional and motivated to get the best out of each of our dives; and most of all we had a lot of FUN!
Alcyone and Dirty Rock my favourites, seeing Tiger shark, multiple other shark species, big tuna and heathy fish life was rewarding. The quality of the boat driving and especially our dive leaders (juan Manuel and Ian) was outstanding, the best I have enjoyed in many liveaboard trips. They always made safety and enjoyment a priority. This boat has a great layout for diving, easy entry and exit, everything well explained and laid out. Staff accommodating, tireless and friendly. Plenty of good, nutritious food every day.
Out of the several liveaboard in my experience this was among the best ever. Courtesy and attention to client are always on top of the crew’s mind.
