Sea Hunter

We’re just back from another spectacular week of diving. Cocos Island was full of surprises this expedition, from orcas in front of Wafer Bay to whale sharks at Dirty Rock and Dos Amigos.

Our first day we found ourselves face to face with tiger sharks, eagle rays, a giant manta, Galapagos sharks and blacktips around Manuelita Island. At the Coral Garden we saw a huge sea turtle and lots of reef fish like snappers, cardinalfish, trumpetfish and moray eels (and also frogfish!).

At Pajara we encountered black durgeons spawning, lots of whitetip reef sharks, sea horses and mantis shrimp. Viking Rock showed us saw lots of macro life punctuated by a few big creatures including Galapagos sharks and a majestic silvertip.

At Dos Amigos Grande we had a tiger shark sighting, but Dos Amigos Pequeno was even better with another tiger, 6 Galapagos, 2 blacktips and yellowfin tuna hunting. We topped off that dive with a big school of hammerheads out in the blue (truly the best way to spend a safety stop).

Alcyone delivered lots of action, including yellowfin tunas hunting beside Galapagos sharks and blacktips.

On our way back to the mothership one day we spotted a baitball from the panga. There were birds hunting above and lots of tunas and pelagics hunting below, including a big female orca beside a smaller one – presumably a juvenile.

Beautiful island, incredible underwater scenery, fantastic crew! What an adventure, I couldn’t have asked for more. Highlights were the hammerheads and tigers. Small Dos Amigos, Dirty Rock and Manuelita Island served up treats each time. Big thanks to everyone from the Undersea Hunter crew who made it all run so smoothly.

Probably one of the best liveabords I’ve ever done in my life. The boat and crew were perfect, super comfortable vessel and the crew helpful and professional and more ten anything else super helpful and friendly and acomodation.Cocos delivered averything we wanted, hammerheds, tigers, galapagos, mantas and even a couple of friendy whalesharks… We will definitely be back!
